Himesh Reshammiya’s song is in the news again. This time though, the ghosts have nothing to do with it. One of Himesh’s nasal gems, Humko Deewana Kar Gaye, helped the Mumbai cops crack a Rs. 4.5 crore diamond theft from the home of Pratap Zaveri, a jewelery store owner. This is how the story goes..
Divesh Borse, a carpenter working at Pratap’s residence, stole diamonds worth Rs. 4.5 crore from a secret drawer in one of the cupboards. He then decided to sell off a few diamonds and have fun at a dance bar in Borivali. Over two evenings Borse spent a lakh on one singer giving him the glad eye. all to the tune of Humko Deewana…
On the third night, a drunk Borse, convinced that the song was his lucky refrain, insisted that the orchestra play it repeatedlly. When other patrons objected, he started showring 1000 rupees notes and boasted that he was the richest patron there. Unfotunately for Borse, present in the bar was a police informer, who alerted the Crime Branch Office. They promptly arrived, and found Borse carying diamonds worth Rs 30 on his person.
